First Entry

I have always been more of a talkative person than a writer, so I have never quite enjoyed writing about myself. In a nutshell, I am from Rhode Island. I love the beautiful state, but loathe my small hometown, which is partly why I chose to come to UT. I wanted to live in the city, somewhere very different from where I came from. I think that coming to Tampa was a good choice. I love how there is always something going on, and I can walk to most of the places that I need to go. I also have an excellent view of the skyline right on campus.

I came into the University of Tampa as a graphic design major, and recently decided to add Digital Arts, since I would only need a few more classes. That is the sole reason why I am taking this course. I am squeamish and do not really want to look at a lot of video/performance art, since a lot of it contains visuals and subjects that are hard to handle. However, after the first class I am looking forward to this semester slightly more. One of my favorite classes that I have taken here so far was Origins of Art, which dealt with art philosophy and had us researching some of the less standard/normal works of art. The class would discuss whether or not certain works were actually art and what attributes would make something a piece of art. Being in class today reminded me a little of that, since we briefly touched upon some of the more contraversial works of art out there. When I am not being squeamish, this is something that I enjoy learning about. Seeing different/abnormal works of art is always both enjoyable and a learning experience for me. It often gets me to see things in a new light and opens my mind up to topics and issues that I have not considered or thought about before. I think that I will enjoy that aspect of this class since it is always good to exercise your mind in that way. I think it not only helps ones creativity, but also makes one a more well-rounded, open-minded person.
